About Front Running Sports . . .
Front Running Sports (FRS) opened its doors in 2007 with the mission of being the best resource for runners, walkers, and fitness enthusiasts who desire to be outfitted in the proper gear.
Outfit athletes in the proper gear to enable the most effective and injury-free training and racing.
Educate new enthusiasts on how the proper fitting of shoes, apparel and gear will help them succeed.
Create a non-threatening environment for customers to learn and grow in an active lifestyle.
How We Do It
We pride ourselves in our ability to evaluate and fit our customers in the proper shoes and apparel.
Here's what you can expect.
We are going to listen to your needs, analyze your walk and run, and assess your foot style before we recommend a specific type of shoe. Part of this evaluation is Video Gait Analysis. Using video technology we are able to better analyze your foot mechanics thus providing a more accurate fit to minimize the risk of injury.
After the evaluation we will make sure the shoe fits properly using our expert knowledge and experience.
Not all stability shoes are created equal anymore than people's feet are created equal. Therefore we will take the time to ensure that the shoe selected is functioning well for your foot design.
About the Owner . . .
Hello and welcome to the Front Running Sports! I'm April Darrow, owner & operator of the store. I've always loved running, and owning a running store has been a dream come true! Lake Mary has been my hometown since the late 90s, and it is so rewarding to combine my passion for fitness with an active interest in what has become a very vibrant business community.
My journey began in 8th grade when my friends and I decided to go out for the track team. Wow was that eye opening! I was horrible at it, perhaps lacking the focus running track requires, or maybe because at that young age it was difficult to comprehend the commitment required. In my Freshman year of High School a friend introduced me to Cross Country. It didn't take long to realize that this was what I'd been looking for - a sport that relied on individual success to achieve team goals!
I ran all four years in High School, and through the support of great coaching and amazing teammates, I was offered running scholarships to two schools. After a brief stop at Georgia Southern (my first experience with roommates!), I ran for Kennesaw State University. Two experiences I'll never forget are participating in the NAIA National Meet in 1992 and being named to the Peach Belt All Conference team in Women's Cross Country in 1994.
Following college, I continued my amateur running career by turning to road racing. I may be partial, but I couldn't imagine a more special group of friends than the ones I've met in the running community. Some of those friends work for me now, and another was a friend that had the courage and vision to start Front Running Sports in 2007 before he handed me the baton in 2012!
There's no such thing as too many friends though, so stop by to say hi, or come join me for a run. Hope to see you soon!
About Our Team . . .
Katy, an avid runner and self-proclaimed “running nerd” has been running since she was 13 years old. After mentoring runners for years, Katy became a certified coach, and now heads up the half and full marathon training groups for FRS. If you have a running related question that she can’t answer, it is with great joy that she will research it to find the answer!
Tommey ran cross country and played soccer in Junior High and High School. Like many of us, in 2012 Tommey renewed her commitment to a healthy lifestyle by visiting FRS for a new pair of running shoes. After being greeted by the store mascots, some overly affectionate rescue dogs, she knew this would be a fun place to work! Tommey's motto is "run happy and healthy", and FRS gives her the forum to share her passion!
Melissa is an avid runner and enjoys participating in local running events. Combining her passion with running and entrepreneurial spirit, she founded "My Soxy Feet", an athletic sock company. When not out running or working at FRS, she can be spotted at one of the many expos she attends each year to promote her brand!
Wendy didn't start running until her twenties, she ran a 5K a day the whole time Jay was deployed. I ran my first half marathon after training by pushing a double stroller. I've since then ran over ten half marathons, two fulls, one 12 hour ultra. I run for fun, health and sanity. I don't race or try to beat anyone except myself.
Cheryl ran track in High School. She loves shoes and dogs so she really fits in at FRS. She's actually done a few 5K's.
